A joint press release by EuroNatur, Riverwatch, and Center for Environment recognizes the victorious effort of 200 community members to stop a dam from being built.
Last Friday, local villagers from Kruščica banded together on a bridge protecting their river from the planned construction of hydropower dam. This peaceful protest was successful in stopping the construction team and investor from attempting to build a dam. This was the second attempt to build a dam and the second time the project was brought down. However, the investor may get a new permit to try to build again.
In the meantime, the protesters are hopeful and won’t give up until they know their river is safe from manmade barriers that would change the beauty of their town and landscape.
